Here at Aspire Adventure activities we just love taking families out on their own mini-adventures. We thrive off their unity and energy and simply love showing them the outdoor activities that they can do in the Peak District.
Half term and glorious weather, how to keep the kids occupied? ‘I thought I would take them Rock-Scrambling‘ mum Penny exclaimed when we met up. We chose Black Rocks because it’s a great location near Matlock, offering just the right terrain for family activities.
After kitting everyone up in helmets and harnesses off we set and soon we came to the part of Harborough rocks known as the weasel. Dad, Brian exclaimed ‘I’ll never get through that!!
Kids become the leaders
One of the things we really notice on family adventure days is that Children who might normally be so quiet, and nervous often come out of their shells and take charge of the situation. These activities are great for building confidence and leadership skills.
“Come on dad”, Jamie shouted and through the weasel hole he went. Onwards, we went through ‘the wormhole‘ with Penny getting into all sorts of contortions, then squeezing through “The Cheese Grater“, up three roped climbs and then the big lower down the cliff – Maie, who initially was so apprehensive went down too, despite her worries.
Onwards we went with even more climbs ascended with Jamie always volunteering to go first.
We think it was safe to say that the family had a fantastic time. They handled the climbs and the Weasling like experts.
At the end of the day when everyone had gotten out of their climbing harnesses, it was time to finish off, I set the final challenge which was the hill race, which Jamie won!
